A craft-led journey toward women’s empowerment
Founded by Vandana in October 2023, Sui Dhaga brings handmade crochet products, and a commitment to meaningful opportunities for women artisans. Women’s empowerment through practical artisan skills - Our mission is to train women artisans for self-employment and better work opportunities, enabling a stronger contribution to their social and financial standing. New skills, new designs, wider opportunity - Sui Dhaga has been invited to train women artisans in crochet jewellery and related skills by IIT Kanpur, IRMA Anand, and Patanjali Ashram, Deoghar. The next goal is to train more women, build a dedicated team, and use new machinery and the internet to create and share original human handmade designs.
Our story
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Vandana began making masks and caps in response to financial hardship, involving women from her neighbourhood to fulfil orders. After gaining professional skills, she began training more women through Sui Dhaga in boutique craft. The journey has included handmade kids’ woollen items, festive essentials, boutique services, and eventually innovative crochet designs. Workshops, seminars, and guidance from JECP helped open new avenues; support from JECP, Accenture, and Avishkar Foundation strengthened the work through grants and trust.
